Project Manager: Formalisation & Rationalisation

Our client is looking for a Project Manager: Formalisation & Rationalisation to be responsible for leading the implementation of projects that are associated with bringing about the transformation of the minibus taxi industry by ‘formalisation’ initiatives. The minibus taxi industry has developed natural business formations at an Association level, which may require a level of reorganisation into a recognised type of Transport Operating Entity (TOE). The role reports to the Head of Projects.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Implement the portfolio of approved projects based on the PMO’s project pipeline
  • Manage the project implementation lifecycle based on best-practice project management principles
  • Engage with the minibus taxi industry to plan and deploy the agreed-upon projects
  • Coordinate and manage the project’s cross-functional team and external subject matter experts as required from time to time
  • Ensure the technology platforms being utilised are appropriately functioning and oversee their configuration and implementation approach
  • Develop the required templates/contracts to transition the industry association/s into a TOE based on the developed methodology
  • Manage the overall transitionary process into a TOE
  • Coordinate with the local minibus taxi association as the project develops with constant ‘go – no go’ checkpoints
  • Analyse the existing taxi industry routes, commuter trends and fleet sizes to develop an optimised operating schedule with an optimised fleet size
  • Implement the technology-based solutions to complement and enable the proposed reconfiguration of the association
  • Ensure that the implementation/continuation of projects aligns with programme goals and objectives
  • Escalate risks and challenges to the PMO Head for intervention and support
  • Ensure proper stakeholder management and build a credible relationship between PMO and the minibus taxi industry as a whole.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Proficient in English and at least 5 African languages
  • Qualification in the Traffic Analysis or Public Transport planning sector
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or Project Management would be advantageous
  • Solid project management implementation track record
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office & other software systems
  • Must have own transport
